What to Expect on Your Visit to SCUC

It's only natural to have a lot of questions about what to expect on visiting a new church. What should I wear, where do I sit, what style of service will it be, will I feel out of place? Hopefully the information on this page and others throughout this site will provide answers in plain language that will set your mind at ease.

Upon Arrival
When arriving for services you will enter the building through either the Main doors or the Atrium entrance which are both located on Lake Ave. Here you will be able to hang up your coat and will likely be greeted by one of our welcoming members. From there it's up the stairs to the Sanctuary level. There are always greeters stationed at the Sanctuary doors and along with exchanging pleasantries they will also provide you with the weekly bulletin and be able to direct you to seating or answer any questions that you may have. Please take the time before you leave to sign our guest registry.

Service Style
In keeping with the nature of the United Church you'll find we are a diverse group of people with a mix of ages and from all walks of life. Feel welcome to have your children join you at our service or take advantage of the fully supervised programmes we offer for all ages, infant to teen. As for dress, dress so that you feel comfortable. We are more interested in the person within than the fashion. The service follows a structure and the weekly bulletin is your program guide, outlining the activities, readings, hymns and prayers that will be used. Although structured, the worship service style is relaxed and uplifting and often involves members of the congregation, youth or other guests. We are celebrating our love of God and our calling to do Christ's work and music is a big part of our celebration. The sermons are topical, relevant and thought provoking. You will leave the service with a spirit refreshed.

Fellowship
After each service, we meet in the Auditorium for coffee hour. Here you will be able meet other members of our congregation and chat with the minister. Here you will also be able to get additional information about our church, its programmes and membership.
